Went to the casino with the girl today. First time Ruthie's been there in about ten months.
She has different caregivers 24/7. Today, Patty Omeara came with her. We had fish and chips after getting our photo taken.
Linda gave me a birthday present but I didn't open it until I got home. Yep! Your presents get weirder and weirder as you age. I do love this little guy, though. I finally propped him up on an old cigar box as he kept falling over when he tried to dance a bit.
Joanne brought me and Mary Norton apples from her tree so I'm going to make apple pies tomorrow and applesauce.
Went to Seattle and Issaquah yesterday for my six-week followup on my shoulder. Took a picture of the x-ray on the viewing machine. Gives me the creeps to know those gadgets are inside my body.
I got up at 5:15 to catch an early ferry as I knew there was a possibility the Hood Canal bridge would be closed off and on. Luckily, we sailed right on through and caught the earlier of two ferries that I planned on. Mary Norton drove my car for me as I wasn't sure how my shoulder was going to behave. We walked on the Bainbridge ferry and she decided to walk the waterfront and visit Farmers Market while I was picked up by my friend, Ann Robson.
We graduated together and she lives in Issaquah now where my surgery was done. We had enough time to catch a quick breakfast since I had caught the earlier ferry. We ate at Issaquah Cafe.
I was in the doctor's office five minutes (if that) and all I got in response to my questions was ...."well, you've had a major surgery and you're going to have some pain." He glanced at my scar, had me push on his hands, and said "come back around Thanksgiving." For all the money I spent to get there ($11.50 just to park at Bainbridge) and for all the time and stress it took, I decided five minutes of "good to go" wasn't satisfactory. I think I'll see the local surgeon who referred me over there in the first place once I decide a second check up might be warranted. The surgeon had absolutely no understanding of the time and expense it took to get to his office and he made it clear, it wasn't something he was even interested in hearing. I don't know what's with the medical population these days. There are lots of good ones out there, I know but there's plenty who need some heavy duty lessons on bedside manner and empathy.
I drove home and then had to stop at Walmart to pick up a prescription. Always a royal pain to use their pharmacy. A pain to use all pharmacies most of the time. I won't bother you with the details but rest assured, Walmart fails at customer satisfaction over and over again!
The house sure was nippy when I got up this morning but so far, I've been able to leave the heat off. It does warm up as the day progresses but I know it won't be long and these old bones will just ache too much and I'll need to crank up the heat.
Saw a picture on Facebook that Mary Gaboury's daughter, Kathleen, posted of herself, her kids, and her parents before they too off for Yuma for the winter.
Ruth told us at dinner that her grandson, Robert Kvinsland, was first round draft pick for the state of Washington for football. He'll be graduating from Peninsula H.S. (The Seahawks) in June. She's so proud of him.
Well, I've had two days of activities and got a day full of apple preparation tomorrow so I'm really worn out. Am taping a special on Austin City Limits shows tonight on PBS. Have been hooked on "Big Love" on Amazon Prime. Even the music is stuff I have to go look up on YouTube.
