I've got to run down to Walgreens and pick up a couple of reprints I put in last night. Came across this tiny little dark picture I forgot I had and I'm hoping my "messing with it" with my computer settings has fixed it up good enouogh to get a halfway decent photo. A picture of the Kuhn Street house in the 1950's. How I wish I had taken more pictures around Port Townsend when I was a kid. I love seeing the "swamp" as it once was.
I got a little bit of weeding done in the front yesterday. Just a small area as it was so thick, even sitting down, the chore was difficult. Hunter was able to mow the front yard too. He had a heck of a time and will try to do the backyard next week. I gave him a little extra dough for the effort. I know I couldn't have done it. The mower isn't high powered enough and I should probably invest in a better one. But I won't. I also need a lot better weed eater. My little electric one just doesn't hold the wire very well and I get more worn out from dealing with that than I do the actual cutting of weeds.
Because of the heavy rainfall we had during April, I'm betting a lot of people are dealing with knee high grass. Makes it hard on those folks who don't have a mower and don't really have the money to hire the work done. The wind was blowing gusts while I was outside yesterday so I'm guessing that's why I'm feeling so stuffed up this a.m. Better down an allergy pill quick, although it's probably too late.
Television, as usual, had little to offer last night so I pulled out DVDs and VHS movies to watch this weekend. Started in on season 2 of The Sopranos. Love that show. My sister stopped in for a while so we went to this ongoing garage sale near the Elwha Casino. We both bought a book and I bought two double sheets still in their packages. They were 100% cotton and I figured I could use them as quilt backings. Forgot just how much 100% wrinkles after a run in the washer and dryer. Man oh man! I've got at least a half hour of ironing ahead of me now.
Gotta run down to the postal substation to mail off another book. This one to Westport. This guy's mom was featured in the book (she has since died) and his brother in Chicago bought one last week. The last couple times I've been in there I've been less than pleased with the service. I figure if you have a contract to have a post office in your store, you'd best man it and not make people wait while you attend to the front counter. Yesterday I walked in to find no one in line. Hooray! The lady came over to wait on me, and as soon as the phone rang, it was like the caller crowded in front of me.
One quick call I can tolerate but when the caller has a long and detailed message to leave for a worker there and the message taker has to find paper and pencil and write several items, I feel my blood pressure rising.
That's always been a pet peeve of mine. If I'm in line at your store, telephone people can get behind me if they call in after I've already reached the front of the line. I think I'm more mad at myself for not speaking up. On the other hand, I spoke up the other day at the print shop and had my head bit off! Must be my week for being irritated.
Which brings up another pet peeve....I send out postcards regularly to this guy in a nursing home. Why, pray tell, does the post office insist on needing the bottom half inch of the card for their tracking sticker? Needless, in my opinion. Okay. Maybe I'm getting petty but it's still an irritant. I'm already mad at the post office anyhow. Prices keep going up and up and service is going down.
Think I'm gonna change the hummingbird feeder today. They come around infrequently and don't stay long. I noticed a couple other feeders a few houses down. Perhaps their nectar is fresher.
later....
The traffic was because the Kiwanis Club is hosting a yard sale at the fairgrounds. I never did stop in but I might. I did browse an old antique store downtown. Found several things I wanted but opted to hang on to my money. I need it for lotto. ha ha I "almost" bought this item for $32. I even picked it up but put it back again. I should have taken a picture of it. Darn it. Where's my memory these days? Anyhow, it was an old black dial tabletop phone. I may go back and get it if it stays in my mind. Just appealed to me somehow.
