Saturday morning

I went to Seattle on Wednesday and Port Townsend on Friday.  Needless to say, I fell in bed and was out like a light last night.  Got lots of pictures, though.  Today is going to be a day of rest sitting in front of the TV watching golf, reading, doing cross stitch, and browsing through cookbooks.  I'm trying to find new recipes as my menus lately are getting more and more boring as the weeks go on. Cooking has become something I only like to watch on television and my meals have become "whatever is quick and easy."

A lot (most) of these pictures I've already posted on Facebook but I know not everybody visits that website.

I drove to the Clearwater Casino to park the car and take their free shuttle bus to the Bainbridge ferry. Jenni and I were picked up in downtown Seattle by Ann Robson, who drove in from Issaquah. She's done this twice before for us and we very much appreciate it. Especially now with all that messy construction going on at the waterfront.  Here are pictures of Ann, pictures of the homeless we saw on the way to Swedish Medical Center, pictures of the waiting room, pictures I took from the ferry, and other shots I found interesting along the way.

I couldn't believe where the homeless pitched their tents to sleep. Many were just out in the open.
This line of "goods" had a sign reading: Help yourself to anything you need. It's stuff we've picked up.

This was the food bank. Saw a few people packing heads of cabbage into their bags.
The view from Swedish Medical Center on Cherry St.
The waiting room was kind of fancy
This display of old instruments was interesting too
                                                      Here's Jenni checking in
                                                        An unusual looking table
                                                           views from the ferry

Below are a couple of pictures I liked of PT. One was in the Leader (aerial view from 1991)of the golf course and the other was a golf course photo on their website.

Mary and her friends are spending the weekend at Adelma Beach so I drove in with Maddie Friday morning.  Was so nice to sit and watch the water and visit.
Dean and Candi (Lopeman) Johnson with their boxer, Roxie
                                              Jake liked my walking stick

I didn't feel like climbing a ladder to get to the sand so I went to a nearby house that had steps.

                                               Candi and Jenny (Liden) Erickson

This is my favorite picture of all. Mary took it when Cody Hewitt let Jake drive the boat.

The hardest part of visiting was the steep stairs (lots of them!) that I had to climb down to get to the beach house.  Going up wasn't that easy either but going down steps is by far, harder for me these days. I end up taking one step at a time 'cause my knee just won't bend comfortably for me to descend like a normal person.  Aggravating as hell!  This last picture of the beach is where swim lessons took place back in the 50's. It was over a ways from where we were at.

I had only planned to stay a couple of hours so many of Mary's friends hadn't arrived yet. Including Andy who was coming over today.  Maddie and I stopped by my brother's house who lived about a mile away and I admired his garden along with a t-shirt quilt Lill made that I saw draped on a chair. What a work of art!

From there we drove over to visit Ruth Kvinsland for a few minutes before we headed to Laurel Grove Cemetery so I could hunt for the tombstones that I'm thinking of going in to work on later this month or next month.  I found the Blanchards but will have to hunt a second time for Westergaards.

As we were leaving the cemetery I saw a yard sale sign on 22nd St. I thought "Oh, wouldn't it be swell if it was the old brown house I grew up in.  AND IT WAS!  The guy living there (a boat designer) even let me tour inside.  Not even close to how it looked in 1950!  Was so small and crowded and kind of cluttered, I couldn't even get a good picture.  He was interested, though, in what rooms were what when I lived there.  The old wood shed still stands in the back yard but it kind of looks like it has some other use now.  Lots of apple trees growing in the back yard. I wish now I had taken more time and shot some outdoor photos.  Maybe on Wednesday when Sue and I go into town to work on tombstones.

Maddie wanted to go down to Elevated Ice Cream to visit their candy store and after we left there, we saw my sister, Janie, riding her motorized cart through town. Stopped to visit her for a while but I forgot to take a picture. She had just been to the library uptown and was making her rounds down on Water Street before heading back home to her place by Safeway.  I meant to take pictures of Elevated and other spots around town but I was overdressed (trying not to get sunburned) and the heat was starting to get to me.  Town was busy with tourists everywhere -- as usual!

We stopped at McDonalds to buy burgers and then headed on back to Port Angeles.  We did stop in Sequim at Jack in the Box as we both thought milk shakes sounded like a real good idea.  I came home and cut 4 gladiolas that were growing in a pot on my deck. Maddie's other grandma Kathy had given me and Jenni a sack of green beans from her garden (mine didn't do well this year) so I fixed them up for the freezer.

Mary and Andy are coming to spend the night Sept. 5th but they'll stay at Jenni's to sleep since Jenni and Wayne will be out of town seeing Kid Rock.  My September calendar has Mary Gaboury coming for a visit on September 23. We've got back-to-back oil changes planned for our cars at a local car place where we bought our vehicles so she's gonna spend the night and we'll probably hit a casino. Maybe Elwha since it's closer.
