Sunday chores

I crawled into bed at around 10 last night.  I was soooo tired.  I thought for sure I'd sleep soundly and for hours but nope, sleepin' like a baby just isn't gonna happen for me anymore, I think.  Unless I turn to drugs or booze.  And that's not likely to happen.  I do think about it from time to time, though.  Have decided it's too much trouble and I need my money for other stuff.

I kept waking up from 1 a.m. on but willed myself to stay in bed until at least 7.  As I tossed and turned I rearranged the bedroom in my head and once I was up and dressed I proceeded to clean and move everything.  Definitely needed a vacuuming since I filled the dirt cup on the machine easily.  I put my bed facing the opposite direction, moved the tv, put all the houseplants by window (they were in the living room), rearranged wall hangings, and washed and dusted everything down.  Sure looks better.

I moved both my chest of drawers into my large walk-in closet, and moved the movie shelfcase to the living room. (and yeah....that's a Woody from Toy Story pillowcase on the bed and a walker under the bed. I'm a kid at one end and an old lady at the other!)

I sure do love those sliders you can put under heavy furniture to move it across the carpet easier. Saves a lot of time, not to mention muscles. In a couple of days, I'll tackle the extra bedroom as it's become the "catch-all room" and really needs some TLC.

While cleaning the master bathroom I noticed an old greeting card my sister had sent me in 1991.  I've had it scotch taped to my bathroom mirrors since it arrived 20 years ago, and it was getting kind of shabby so I copied it on my scanner to make a fresh print.
I noticed a picture I had framed was kind of dark so I copied it as well and brightened it up with the scanner before sending it off to Walgreen's for a fresh 5x7 print.  I always liked this photo that my sister-in-law, Lill, took several years ago of my brother, Dana, walking with dad on the Larry Scott Trail.
Well, that's about it for today. I've got a doctor appt on Wednesday (oh joy!) and am going to the Silverdale Mall on Thursday. Catie is meeting me at Target parking lot so she can pick up the twins and take them back to Mary and Andy's for the weekend.  It's always a treat when they get to visit their aunt and uncle in Renton.

Saturday

It's a little after 4 p.m. and for the last hour, I've suspected that I'm either catching a cold or am having allergies troubles.  Kind of leaning towards the latter, although usually when this comes upon me, it's first thing in the morning, not late afternoon.  I did do a tiny bit of dusting but certainly not enough to cause this much discomfort.  Took an Allegra (thank you Mary!) and squirted some Afrin up the old nose too.  Oddly, I seemed to get worse after taking those steps but maybe it's just my imagination.  My eyes are puffy and uncomfortable, and  I'm sneezing and dripping. On the plus side, I don't have a sore throat or earache or headache.  That usually signals nastier stuff on the way.

I was going to sew today but guess what...I didn't feel like it.  I left the house a little after 9 am to hit 5 or 6 craft bazaars, estate sales, and garage sales.  Only interested in the ones closer to my end of town.  Found a nifty shelf for Jenni at the first stop I made and then headed over to the Methodist Church.  Hunter called as I was pulling into the parking lot and asked if I was still going shopping. (I had mentioned it yesterday but didn't think they seemed interested)  He did want to go so I went back and picked him up.

I bought a few small items that I'll use for Christmas gifts.  Had on my PTHS alumni sweatshirt and one vender in the Senior Center told me she was an alumni too. Karen Bower of class of '66. I bought three skeins of yarn from her.

Was back home by 11:30 and then I started doing little tasks here and there.  Framed up half a dozen cards I ordered for Xmas presents and that ended up taking a while because I had to clean the glass for each of them.

I kept watching my bird feeders hoping I'd see some action. I think I did see a couple by late afternoon so perhaps they'll spread the word. I did get out my bird book to try and figure out exactly what kind of bird I saw feeding out there but I never could ID it.  Was probably a sparrow of some kind.  Maybe a junco?

I did find out why my electric clock set itself back an hour? Hunter and Maddie had the same problem with theirs and they have clocks liked mine.  Jenni says they're programmed for changing to daylight savings time but got screwed up on one day to do it.
Well, I'm steadily going downhill with this dang sinus condition. Guess I'll head out to the other room and sit in the recliner and feel sorry for myself.  I'm really good at that. Maybe I'll just call it a day and get my jammies on.  Sometimes that makes you feel better.

Oh..and I added a new picture album on Facebook of snow pictures.  Just because.

Yard work

I had intended to sit and sew today but as often happens, I got side tracked.  One thing led to another and about 3 hours later, I was exhausted, dirty, and achy.  Took 3 iboprofen to try and ward off what I know, without a doubt, is coming.  Especially where my foot is concerned.  I hate hate hate it that I can't work like a plowhorse and get everything done that I want to. I'll sew tomorrow.

I've been discouraged because I haven't  had any birds coming around for weeks.  Decided it was time I took action.  I threw out the thistle seed as I was told on Facebook that finches are gone until next spring.  Cleaning out those feeders was delightful, let me tell you.  Some of the seed had gotten moldy and rotten and I had to poke with a stick and clean with a high squirt of water from the hose.  Messy job!

The hardest chore was trying to stick a bird feeder into the very hard rocky ground.  I wanted them moved and there was no turning back.  I clawed several holes, and used several other tools like the shovel, the hand claw, etc.  to try and get to soft ground.  I knew better.  There is no soft ground in my back yard.

I got the holes dug about 6" down or so and then braced the pole with rocks.  There's a large pile of really good stone on the empty lot of the house next to me. It's been sitting for so long that it's disappearing under weeds.
Here I am taking a picture of me helping myself.  I don't know if the builder left it here years ago or if the gal who left the house vacant just lost interest.  At any rate, I filled my wheelbarrow three times and pushed it over to my backyard.  (About killed myself in the process too!)

Once the kids get home, I think I'll go over to the airport nursery or Swains or Walmart and see about picking up some birdseed.  I noticed one lousy crow watching me as I worked and sure enough, as soon as I went in the house, four crows landed in the yard to pick around to see what they could find.  I really don't want to feed the crows, but they seem to be the first in line.  Them and the pigeons.

Lifting those pots one by one into my wheelbarrow to relocate them in the bird area was really hard work.  I keep thinking if I don't give up and continue to work that my body will adjust and go along for the ride.  Nope.  She's got a mind of her own, I guess, and never seems willing to cooperate when I want to tackle some toil or another.

I guess I'm not happy if I don't have something to worry about.  I don't like the looks of my tree in the front.  Perhaps it's supposed to look the way it does what with the changing season and all but it's never looked especially healthy to me.  (the builder put it in)  I'm pretty sure the neighbor's tree which sits a few feet away is a different type but it's discouragaging to see how well their tree looks compared to mine.

I just don't get it!

I have one of those digital electric clocks in my bedroom that illuminates during the night so I can see exactly how the night is progressing everytime I turn over or get up to pee.  This morning the garbage truck woke me up coming down the alley and my clock said 6:20 a.m. I thought that was awfully early.  When I first moved in, that truck would lumber through anywhere from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Never could depend on it to be regular.  Anyhow, I have every other week pick-up so I knew I didn't need to worry that I hadn't set the can out the night before like I usually do.

I was puzzled, though, why he was so early this morning.  I got up and clicked on the TV and was surprised to see The Today Show in progress.  Odd.  They don't start until 7 a.m.  On further investigation of other clocks in the house, I discovered my bedroom clock (which is electric) was an hour off.  How can that be?  I distinctly remember it being the right time when I went to bed.  I always make note of what time I'm turning out the light.  Not sure why. Just another of my goofy habits.  I'm going to check that clock periodically today to see if it starts running slow although I've never heard of an electric clock losing time.

And that's about all I have for this morning. I'm going to surf a couple of websites I always visit, check to see if it's my turn to play scrabble with Vernie Colt on Facebook, and then head out to the kitchen to start sewing quilt pieces together and work on other projects.  I suspect I may try to take a nap before the kids get home from school too.

Nothing much on my calendar all month except Thanksgiving, of course, and oh yeah....a pap smear next week. I'm especially looking forward to that.  Haven't had one in four years.  I think I'm meeting Mary or Catie next Thursday or Friday at Silverdale Mall so the twins can spend the weekend with Andy and Mary.  I'll have to think about what I need if I'm driving to the mall. I seldom ever go there to shop but if I'm gonna be in the neighborhood, I might as well make it worth my time.

Here's a fun video (which I may have posted before)  I could watch these guys for hours........

Break-up song

I found this video on YouTube while surfing around and thought it was pretty darn good. These guys can sing.  hee hee

Spent a little time cutting out quilt pieces again yesterday and the collection is growing. Think I'll take a break from that activity and start sewing them together.  I really love this one particular book I have because the pictorial and color directions help even the lamest quilter figure out how to make the pattern. Here's the quilt I made when I first started experimenting. Hunter (who doesn't miss much) asked me why three squares had dark blue material. I told him because I ran out of the light blue and I have a very limited color sense to start with.

I've been taping the Home and Garden channel a lot this week.  Easier to watch when you can zip through the "way too many commericals."  Love having them in reserve to fall back on.  I often turn on the tv in my bedroom as soon as I wake up.  If I have to listen to the latest details on Michael Jackson's lawyer, Lindsey Lohan's sentence, Kim Kardashion's separation, or Justin Bieber's sexual encounters, the set is usually turned off in disgust.

This morning they interviewed Star Jones on "what exactly is sexual harassment?"  GIVE ME A BREAK!  I can't hardly stand to listen to her in the first place.  Anyhow, the tv went off in a hurry. And yes, I used some bad words while doing it.

Well, I'm off to the kitchen now. Got an interesting picture in an email a few days ago from my old pal, Sharon Sofie.  I thought it would be fun to show a teenage picture of her and her boyfriend and how they look today. Honest to Pete, they make me SICK!  Aging gracefully is one thing but they've made me feel like I'm ....well......  old.

Rain comin' ...

What a voice Vince Gill  has.....    I love him.

Sitting here looking out the window and it's getting grayer by the minute.  Suspect rain is gonna commence soon.  I cut out a few more quilt pieces this morning and finished listening to an audio book I recommend highly---The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig.  Really really good!  About kids growing up in 1910 Montana and going to a one-room schoolhouse.  I loved it!

Virginia and I made a quick Walmart run and then stopped at KFC for lunch.  Ate it while sitting on the bluff watching the boats out in the bay.  Messy but yummy.

I came home and worked on my Christmas gift list and Christmas card list.  We're cutting back this year and except for the grandkids, I'm pretty much done.  Am giving homemade presents and other little odds and ends I've accumulated at yard sales, thrift stores, catalogs, etc.  I've got a pretty nice mix although I usually am uneasy giving my sewing productions away as I'm self conscious about my seamstress ability.

I finally got the six Christmas cards in the mail today that I sent for three weeks ago.  An artist in Hadlock so I don't know what the hold-up was.  I might frame each one (they're 5x7) and give as small gifts.  They kind of look like gnomes and while they have a Christmas theme, the background is Chetzemoka Park.

I looked over my Christmas card list and it numbered about 40 or so.  I'm playing with the idea of sending out greetings via email this year. Would certainly save on postage.  Still.....I always have liked sending cards so I'm thinking it over.  I may send Christmas postcards instead. I think I've already mentioned this but when I have nothing much to talk about, I have a tendency to repeat myself.  And on that note, I think I'll go take a nap.

Brrr...gettin' a little cold out there

I put an extra blanket on my bed this morning. For some reason, I seem to prefer lightweight comforters instead of heavier blankets when I sleep. Never used to be that way. I often slept in flannel and had multiple blankets on the bed, and I can remember a time (vaguely) when I slept in really pretty lingerie.  Got two or three outfits at bridal showers back in 1963.  Course I was younger then.  And slimmer. And prettier, And sexier.  ha ha ha  Nah....I was never sexy.  On the other hand, I do have four kids so maybe I was.  Or I was just easy.  Yeah, that's it.

I didn't get too much accomplished today. That sometimes happens when I decide to work on my next post for the Leader blog.  It's up and ready for viewing so I can concentrate on other things for a week or two.

I cut out a few more quilt pieces, reprogrammed the universal remote, taped some shows on the HGTV channel for viewing later, and made up a big pan of lasagna.  It was kind of runny and consisted of odds and ends I wanted to use up in the fridge but it tasted okay.  Kind of bland but I was able to pawn it off on Jenni and Wayne after I helped myself to a serving for dinner.

Got a coupon in the mail from KFC for buy one, get one free so I'm picking up Virginia tomorrow for their 2-piece meal with mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and roll.  Think maybe I'll stop by Serenity House before lunch to browse for a couple of items I need.

This is a cute commerical. Most commercials with animals I find amusing.

Off to the front room.  Guess I'll watch Dancing with the Stars and see who they boot off.  Any of about four of them could leave as far as I'm concerned.  Did anybody see Justin Beiber on Ellen today?  OMG!  His pants were down to his knees.  Sure will be glad when that immature fad passes into history.  Can't they see how utterly stupid they look?!

I wonder if I was 12 if I'd be mooning over the Justin types?  Probably. I always liked the pretty boys --Sal Mineo, Ricky Nelson, Elvis, the Everly Brothers, James Dean.... but on the other hand, I liked Little Richard, Fats Domino, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, and Johnny Cash too.  Course Johnny was always cute...even when he wasn't.  hee hee

Most of the guys I find appealing now are pretty worn out and look like they've had a hard life...
Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Sam Elliott, Mick Jagger, Kris Kristofferson, and Robert Duvall.
