A puttering kind of day

Some days just end up being that kind of day where you're rearranging, sorting, trashing, and cleaning out "stuff."  Yesterday I pulled my two large trash bins (on wheels thank goodness) down the yard, through the gate and out to the alley.  I have pick-up every two weeks but my bins are so large, sometimes I can go four weeks without setting them outside.  I keep my trash days marked on my calendar and even make a reminder note to myself on Wednesdays to remember my Thursday chore. (they come early on Fridays)  I went down to retrieve the bins about a hour ago and was surprised that neither one was empty.  This chore is a little difficult for me right now because of my shoulders so it was annoying to find them still full of garbage.  I came back inside to recheck my calendar and there it was....telling me NEXT Friday is trash day.  Hate it when I do that.  Now I have to decide if I want to leave them there all week or pull them back closer to the house.  I have a set up where I can just stand on the deck and open the lids right there.  Maybe I'll pull them back inside the yard.  I don't really like my trash so accessible to the wind or passing snoops.

I brought in a couple of junk boxes from the garage and sat down in the back room to go through four boxes total of odds and ends that needed to be sorted.  My throwaway sack wasn't as big as I thought it would be but I find it real hard to throw stuff out that I might need someday.  I filled an even smaller box for Goodwill and gave Hunter a small plastic bag of  things I thought might interest him. (a pocket knife, a padlock with key, and old foreign coins)

I also moved around a few things and sorted like stuff together.  All the masking and scotch tapes and glues, for example, are now in one basket. The batteries are stored in another little bin, and several things are bagged up so I can find them in the box. (sandpaper, shoestrings, craft items, nails, screws, electrical outlets, etc.)

After I got all that cleaned up and put away, I decided to go through cookbooks and see what cut-out recipes I still wanted to keep and which ones can make their way to the trash.  I looked over the ingredients and any recipe that had something I never ever buy or don't even know what it is, got discarded.

I've been sleeping in this room on the memory foam but decided I wanted to go back to my larger bedroom tonight so I pulled the foam mattress through the house, changed the blankets, moved my bedside items, etc. and set myself up in there.  Because I have a touch of OCD, I also changed knickknack spots, and switched places between one recliner and the loveseat.  Also took a large puzzle picture off the wall and set it against the wall on the floor where I can see it better.

I took a short nap before I went up to the high school to pick up Hunter. (Maddie has a cross country meet in Gig Harbor today).  For dinner I'm going to play around with leftovers and see what kind of a mess I can make.  I have brown rice which I intend to fry up a bit and add leftover cut-up roast and carrots and peas.  May scramble in an egg too with a little onion and green pepper.  Not sure how it's going to taste but at least I'm getting the  leftovers used.

I may make a little cake in a mug too as I came across a recipe for it when I was cleaning out.  I tried making one a couple of days ago that I saw online but both the chocolate and the vanillla cakes turned out horrible.  You know they're a flop when I toss cake in the trash.

Looking over my calendar for the rest of October, I see my only notations for activities are four physical therapy sessions.  I've been going twice a week and while it hurts plenty to have her working me over, she does feel I'm making progress as she can move my arm a whole lot further than when I started.  I assume she's going to have me come for sessions in November too but we'll see.  Sometime after the first of the year, I'm going to have to get my left shoulder into the MRI tube and see what's going on there.

Sun, Nov. 9th, I'm picking up Lew Morello in Sequim so we can ride together to Linda Wilson's memorial at Fort Worden Beach in Port Townsend.  Mary, Andy, Jake, and Catie are all going to Hawaii for Thanksgiving so maybe I'll see if Jenni wants to come here or have me at her place. She's at her annual scrapbooking camp this weekend.

Have started work on my genealogy searches for my dad's mom, Viola Mae Holt.  I already have a lot of data but I need to get it in better reading order and see what else I can find.  I'll eventually head back to working on Blankenships too as I haven't found Charlie yet.

I also might delve into my mother's adoptive family and her biological family.  A ton of history to keep me occupied, that's for sure.  Here's some family pictures...

Les coming by the halloween party in Hadlock last Sunday
My cousin, Linda, in KY and her daughter, Holly
An oldie of my dad, Aunt Elva, Aunt Velna, Uncle George, and Uncle Arthur
                                                            Andy playing with Jake
Dana in Rhody Run a few years ago (on the right). Dr. Scheyer on left, Jan Boutilier, 2nd from right
Lill finishing her Rhody Run race a few years ago.

And here's a video that might make you feel a little sad.  Shows yet another disease we live with in our world today...
