It's a Play Day

I tried really hard to sleep in this morning but it just wasn't going to happen after my 5 a.m. trip to the bathroom.  I did manage to stay under the covers until 6:30 and then gave it up.  I had a quick cup of coffee, and did a few household chores.  Vacuumed, washed dishes, took the garbage bins out to the alley, dumped water out of my planter boxes on the deck, wrapped a couple more presents, and brought in the large suitcase from the garage so it will be ready for packing in a few days.  I looked around and realized there was nothing much else on my to-do list.  Woo  Hoooo!

I took a picture of my duck collection and posted it on Facebook 'cause I'm a silly goose.  Ha Ha
I took the twins to school at 9 a.m. yesterday, picked up Joyce Lee Adams, stopped at the bread store and Walmart and then proceeded to Jefferson County.

Our first stop was at Kris & Bill Rust's place out on Marrowstone Island.  We saw the island's upside down tree on the way.
They had a bad windstorm last week and this tree was toppled onto a fence (I think). Residents started to decorate it and it made the front page of the Port Angeles paper this morning.  My brother, Les, who used to be married to Kris, and lives on the island too, came by so we could exchange gifts.
One nice thing about living in a small town like Nordland is that everyone knows you.  A friend of mine who lives on Marrowstone sent me a Christmas card but she sent it to my Sequim address and it was returned. The postmaster at Nordland knows Les and recognized the name. Asked him if I was a relative.  Les said: Yeah, that's my sister. She's in Port Angeles now.  Told him I was coming over that morning so he gave him the card to pass along.  I like that.

Joyce and I would have liked to have browsed  in a couple of thrift stores we passed but we had too many stops to make so decided we'd try it another day.  Our next stop was in Hadlock and I was anxious for Joyce to see Linda's very decorated house.

Linda bought this nativity scene at my ex-husband's garage sale.
This puzzle has 1500 pieces and Linda folds it up every year to display again.
I don't know how she does it.  I didn't even take pictures of everything she had out.  I maybe set out 1/16 of this much and I was exhausted.  ha ha

From Linda's we headed over to my brother Dana's house on Four Corners Road.  On the way to Marrowstone, I spied him out bike riding and pulled over to tell him I was dropping in later.  Lill was out and about so I didn't get her picture this time.
From Dana's we headed to Port Townsend so I could catch Ruthie before she took off for the Silverdale Mall.
Then it was down to my sister's apartment near Safeway where I had to load more presents into my car for me and other family members.
I made a quick stop by Jim Brooks' house as he had bought five of my books and I needed to deliver them.  Joyce and I were getting hungry by this time but we had planned to stop at the casino on the way home for fish and chips so we made do with candy from one of the little gifts Janie and Linda had given us.
I sure don't like this picture of me.  But oh well, you gotta go with what you got.  Ha!

We wanted to do a lot more browsing downtown but fatigue got the better of us.  We are in our 70's, after all!  I bought a large purple purse with polka dot lining in the bag store.
Parking was hard to find and Joyce was surprised at the crowds.  I told her it's kind of like that year round these days.  We browsed in Quimper Mercantile and I bought two cute wind-ups toys for Jake. They have a lot more stuff in there compared to when I was in last. And the prices are okay too.

I had to walk through Don's, of course, and that was where Joyce and I finally saw somebody we recognized. She saw Shirley Myers from her class and I saw Donette Johnson Kimball and Peggy Mosher.  I picked myself up a journal and then we drove across town to Goodwill so I could look for 300-piece jigsaw puzzles for my son-in-law's dad.  Found one and then Joyce gave me a really cool one when we got back to her house.

We had our fish and chips by 2 pm at the casino and then played the slots for about an hour before deciding our day was coming to a close.  She won $40. I donated.  As usual, I was very happy to pull into my garage just as it was starting to get dark.

I hit the sack at 9 pm and was out like a light.  Am roasting a little cornish game hen for supper tonight but otherwise, I'm in kickback mode and intend to relax.  I want to look at videos on FB and Youtube, watch Netflix, read, knit, and nap. Hmmm....maybe I'll make some banana cookies too.
