Labor Day Weekend

Sun is shining and my day is free of chores.  I'm gonna ride my bike up and down the street a bit, work on sewing some more squares to a quilt, work on the alumni newsletter data, and sort through a stack of pictures Mary Gaboury lent me so I can see if I can figure out the year the photo was shot.  Always love going through pictures.

I met her at 7 Cedars Casino yesterday afternoon. We had burgers while we played bingo.
Neither of us won. We seldom do so we've accustomed ourselves to the sorrow of regret that we wasted our money.  I don't think I even "got on" once.  And there weren't that many people there either.  People from PT I knew:  Sharon Bare, Jerry Schaff, Karen Bittner, Lorraine Dieu, and Phyllis Rogers.

After bingo we went into the casino for a while. Watched the band and people dancing for a bit but didn't stay too long because it was loud.  When you're not drinking, the noise is an issue. Interesting to see people dancing, though. Guys have loosened up since "my day" and they wiggle their bootie a whole lot more.  A few girls fast dancing together too but that's nothing new. There's always been more females than males where there's music and dancing. If a girl wants to dance, you pretty much just get out there with friends.

I did this myself lots of times. Especially when they make you pay cover to get in to hear the music. I'd be darned if I was gonna just sit there because no fella wanted to circle the dance floor with me.  Only drawback to that is that there's always "that bunch" who decide you must be gay if you're dancing with a girl. I never slow danced, of course, but I enjoyed the fast tunes.  You do that with a couple of drinks under your belt, and if you're a good dancer (like I am). Okay. Like I used to be.  I can barely get out of a chair nowadays.  Ahhh...the memories.

One of the pictures Mary had was two side-by-sides of us 50 years apart. I sent it in to Walgreens for reprints as one photo. Here it is in black and white...
And before I forget...HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CAROL RUSTAD MUSIAL, another buddy of mine from years long gone. Carol and I started hanging out together in the 4th grade. Here we are 18 years ago at my 50th birthday party.  My God!  Can that be right?!

I see that Sons of Anarchy is starting up again Tuesday night. Looking forward to it on F/X.

Meanwhile, here's a recipe I'm going to make this week. Had it at my daughter's house and it's a recipe from Sandy Johnson.

Baked Beans

1 lb. hamburger
1 lb. bacon (cut to bite size)
1-28 oz. can of B&M baked beans (not drained)
2-15.5 oz. cans red kidney beans (or 1 light,1 dark can) DRAINED
1 can butter beans DRAINED (in veg aisle, not beans aisle)
1/2 C. brown sugar
1 C. ketchup
2 tsp. dry mustard

Brown hamburger and bacon. Drain. Add rest of ingredients, mixing gently so as not to mash the beans. Bake covered fro 45 minutes at 350.
