Taking it easy today

Seems to be a lot of activity on the street this morning. Road crews are cutting bushes nearby (I think) and potholes are being repaired in the alley and on other side streets.  A big moving van just parked in front of the house next door so I’ll have new neighbors again. Another coast guard couple.

I sure was pleased to hear the downpour of rain yesterday. I had just "played in the dirt" and wanted my plants to get a good soaking. I stopped to rest twice but I think it was a little too warm as I literally collapsed afterwards.  I went to bed early and didn't even have the energy to read. Just laid there moaning for over an hour and finally got up to take an Advil.  This morning I have shin splints.  How can that be?!  It was just gardening, for crying out loud!

Hunter mowed my back lawn yesterday and helped me with a few odds and ends I was trying to clean up.  Moved my puny rhubarb plant and some strawberry plants from one corner of the yard (not a good place) and stuck them in the raised flower beds on the other side of the yard.

I got my rose bush moved and other spots weeded so it's slowly starting to look better out there.

snap dragons under my plum tree

tiny little plums are finally appearing

I also transplanted some crocosmia from one corner of the yard to the flower bed.  I think I had  some growing in the front too, so I dug them up and took them around to the back.  My neighbor in Sequim gave me a few of these when I moved and I always loved them.  Unfortunately, so did the deer.  I'm looking forward to them flourishing in the fenced back yard.  I'm stopping by her house tomorrow to get some more.  This is how they look when they're blooming.

My sister told me that red hot poker plants aren't eaten by the deer so I'm going to get me one of those too as I really want some color in the front.

Other flowers that are supposed to be safe from deer include:

Daffodils, Astilbe, Asters, Hollyhocks, Black-Eyed Susan, Purple Coneflower, Hibiscus, Foxglove, Zebra Grass, Peonies, Carnations, Hybrid Phlox, Geraniums, Lilac bush, Widow's tears. I hope to get  some of ALL of them eventually.

This morning I planted some foxglove seeds in the front.  The twins and I went to Swains to search for seed packets (more expensive than they need to be in my opinion) and as we were browsing the display turn table, Maddie sees broccoli packages, and says:  "Ick.  Why would anyone want to plant broccoli?"

As we sat in the car earlier waiting for Hunter to be done with his dentist appt, she proceeded to tell me her summer schedule. Very busy with camp,  paint classes, trips, etc.  She asked me what my schedule looked like, and I told her:

Well, it's pretty exciting.  Thursday I wheel the garbage can down to the alley and Friday afternoon, I push it back to the side of the house.

Actually, though, I do have a casino luncheon date tomorrow to celebrate Joanne Gilles' retirement (yesterday) and a wedding in Tacoma on the 30th.

This picture I posted yesterday of my cousin, Denny, was taken on Taylor Street. Now that it's been pointed out to me, I can see Mary Gaboury's old house on the left by that big tree. At least I think that's her house.

Sunday I went over to Jenni's for dinner. Took a few pictures of Hunter and his dad and granddad as they looked over the tractor Hunter is restoring. He even orders the paint on Amazon. He's such a boy.

His "other" lawnmower that didn't actually cut grass but allowed him to zip around the yard. Here's a picture of him last year...

And here's Maddie and her grandma Kathy enjoying a burger....

My trivia and joke for the day......
The tooth is the only part of  the human body that cannot heal itself.

A blonde calls Delta Airlines and asks, 'Can you tell me how long it'll
take to fly from San Francisco to New York City ?'
The agent replies, 'Just a minute.'
'Thank you,' the blonde says, and hangs up.

And last but not least, here's a sneak preview of my front and back covers of the book I hope to have ready at the end of summer.....

The paperback book will be 6x9 in size, have a green cover (I think), and contain about 180-200 pages with lots of pictures.  Lots and lots of PT names as I included all the comments people made when I was blogging on the Leader. I'm hoping to keep the price right around $12 -- depends on how much it costs me for printing.  I'm real pleased with it so far and it will be for sale at Don's Pharmacy in Port Townsend, on E-bay, and by mail.

Well, I'm off to the kitchen now. Gonna whip up some bran muffins.  It's what grammas do.
